Oh well, we tried.

Due to lack of sponsorship interest this event is now cancelled.

We contacted over 163 businesses in the White Rock South Surrey area and were not able to find enough businesses interested in sponsoring a sandcastle competition.  This is the very artsy event we were modelling the White Rock Sandcastle Competition after:

Alaska Airlines wanted to write an article about our event for their in-flight magazine (in the pocket of every seat on every plane) and unfortunately there wasn’t any business interested in being a title sponsor.  Now that would have been an amazing opportunity for a business.   

We received thousands of inquiries locally, across North America and Europe from people wanting to come and see the event, and we had numerous inquiries for group bookings of the walking tour.

At Sandcastle, we strive to offer more than just a banner at the event to promote a business, we market a business on behalf of the business, with sponsorships starting at $100 to accommodate small business budgets.

Oh well, at the next board meeting, the final decision will be made whether or not to take this event to another city where there is support for an artistic event which draws international attention and local visitors.

Thank you to everyone who helped along the way this year, it was fun trying, and thank you for believing in the possibility.  All sponsorship funds received will be returned - all cheques were held (not cashed) incase the event did not receive enough sponsorships to pay for the event.
